Functional Movement and Physical Therapy

Functional movement is a central part of what it means to stay healthy and independent. Physical therapy at Compass Therapeutic is designed to help individuals develop, maintain, and restore movement and functional ability throughout life. Movement and function can be affected by aging, acute injury, chronic degenerative conditions, disease, or environmental factors. When that happens, physical therapy can help by identifying the origin of the limitation and building a plan that supports improved mobility and quality of life.

How Physical Therapy Supports Functional Ability

Physical therapists first evaluate your history, movement patterns, strength, and functional limitations. Based on that assessment, a management plan is developed to help restore movement potential. When appropriate, the plan may incorporate relevant information from imaging or other clinical findings.

Physical therapy services may support patients across several areas of care, including promotion, prevention, treatment/intervention, habilitation, and rehabilitation.

Whole-Person Impact

Functional movement is not limited to the physical realm. Changes in mobility can affect confidence, daily routines, and overall wellbeing. Compass Therapeutic recognizes that recovery can involve psychological, emotional, and social factors as well.

Who Provides Care

Physical therapy is performed by a licensed physical therapist (PT) or a physical therapist assistant (PTA) acting under the direction of a PT.
